Bangalore University - Two Years (Four Semesters)

Programme Overview

The B.Ed. two years programme of study spreads over four semesters with four term-end examinations, the successful completion of which would lead to the award of a bachelor’s degree in education.

Eligibility for Admission

A citizen of India who has passed any Bachelor’s degree examination of Bangalore University or any University in India or abroad recognized as equivalent through 10+2+3/4/5 pattern of education who has obtained 50% of marks in aggregate of all the subjects he/she has studied for degree is eligible for admission to B.Ed. programme

  • The candidate with less than 50% aggregate in the degree, but a Masters Degree with 50% is also eligible for B.Ed. programme
  • In the case of SC/ST, Category -1 and physically challenged student, 45% marks in aggregate of all the subjects he/she has studied for degree course or 45% in postgraduation is acceptable
  • A candidate must fulfill the eligibility criteria as per directives of Govt. of Karnataka from time to time

B.Ed. Programme Framework

Duration of the Course

The B.Ed. CBCS Semester Programme lasts for two years with four semesters totaling 96 credits:

  • 1st Semester: 24 credits
  • 2nd Semester: 24 credits
  • 3rd Semester: 24 credits
  • 4th Semester: 24 credits

The practice teaching programme is conducted in three phases:

  • Phase I – Pre internship: 4 weeks during second semester, 4 credits
  • Phase II – Internship: 10 weeks during third semester, 12 credits
  • Phase III – Post internship: 6 weeks during fourth semester, 8 credits

Medium of Instruction

Instruction medium is either English or Kannada. Students can choose English or Kannada for practice teaching. Theory exams may be written in either language.

Attendance

  • A candidate must attend at least 80% of classes in each subject and 90% for practical activities to be eligible
  • All assignments must be submitted at the end of each semester to appear for examinations
  • Participation in all semester activities and report submissions are compulsory

EPC 6: Action Research: A practical activity conducted by the student-teacher under the guidance of the teacher educator, followed by the submission of a report.

Internal Assessment

The internal assessment marks shall be based on records, tests, seminars, assignments, practical activities, & overall involvement in all course-related activities.

Community Living Camp & Study Tour

Each student-teacher has to compulsorily participate and submit a report on their participation in a three-day community living camp exclusively conducted at a rural place by the college. The CLC aims to foster qualities like collective work, cooperative living, fellow feeling, and like-mindedness towards rural culture among student-teachers.

The college shall arrange activities during CLC to foster these orientations. Each student-teacher must also compulsorily take part in the excursion and submit a report to the college.

The college conducts a study tour for a minimum period of three days to visit places of educational, historical, cultural, and scientific importance. Each student-teacher must compulsorily take part in the tour and submit a report to the college.
