About Us About Our School The Shantiniketan Education and Welfare Trust is a 42-year-old society that runs the Shantiniketan Educational Institutions. It was founded and nurtured by a visionary and eminent educator, the Late Dr. A.B. Guptan who saw the need and established the first such educational institution in the BTM Layout region of Bangalore. He went on to establish a PU & Degree college as well as a B. Ed College. His philosophy remains the guiding force for the institution. The school is affiliated to the Karnataka State Education Examination Board (KSEEB) and the CISCE Board, New Delhi and allows students to appear for the SSLC and ICSE examinations in 10th standard respectively. It has two full-fledged campuses – one at #58, Mico Layout and the other at #70, Bilekahalli. Campus Mico Layout Bilekahalli Every child is Special The fundamental philosophy that drives us is the understanding that every child is special – they are not necessarily all equally good at the same thing. They are all unique, have their special talents, abilities and creativity. It is the role of the school and the teacher to nurture, nudge and help children navigate through the early years so that they can be the best and successful at what nature has provided. We just cannot afford to leave any child behind. It is important that children are happy as well as successful. We have partnered with an organization that specializes with value education as we believe it is critical to ensure that children have a sound moral compass when they leave school. It is our responsibility to make sure that we are raising ethical and compassionate citizens. The changing society and its many distractions have dictated an increasing focus on the psychological well-being of the child. Our in-house counselor helps with any adjustment, personal or interpersonal problems that may be distracting the children from their education. click on image to know about 'After school program' Montessori Method of Teaching The school recognized the advantages and integrated the Montessori method of teaching into its Kindergarten and lower grade classes. Having run this system for about ten years, it is observed that students develop order, coordination, concentration, independence and become active seekers of knowledge. This allows them to perform better in a concept-based examination system as the new syllabi from the KSEEB and CISCE boards require. The school invests in its qualified and well-trained faculty as it believes that they are the pillars of its success and still the best resources for imparting learning. In addition to academics, it has a large contingent of qualified teachers to teach art, crafts and sports (with special coaches for volleyball, basketball, table tennis, chess and cricket) to supplement its strong belief in the all rounded development of all children. The students regularly win laurels in many competitions as can be seen in the overflowing prize chests and many go on to participate in state and national level events. There is an emphasis on the three-language formula as research has shown a strong corroboration between the exposure of students to multiple languages in their early years and their intelligence. There is also a focus on soft skills training and development of the children to allow them to be successful further down in their career. The school has all the facilities for technology-driven assistance to learning as appropriate for the child. While it is against the overdose of technology that is already disrupting the learning pattern of most children, it has competitive AV labs, technology labs and computer labs which are used in a judicious manner in the learning process. There is also an emphasis on communication with the parents using the diary, SMS, email, website and Parent-Teacher-Meetings (PTMs) to keep the parents abreast of the progress of their children. A smartphone app (inSEIght) provides day to day updates about homework, schedules, attendance and other notifications while providing a communication channel and peace of mind for parents on the go.
